Wan King Path, Sai Kung Hare - Indyanus It happens to us all, even the most experiences hares, you spend 3 hours of your life laying great trail and 20 minutes before the start it p*sses down and your trail is gone. This week is was the turn of Indy to be in this position. I was late out of work (a rarity) and Mother Teresa and I turned up at the suspiciously named Wan King Path (according to Chris its a literal translation of Bay View Path, but there is no bay view from here...) to find Indy holding two large boxes of Anzac cookies and lamenting the demise of possibly the world's best ever run. Hopeless had just got back in from trail and had laid down extra hell bank to try to keep the trail going, so without much ado, I left Mother Teresa with her Bourbon to catch up with Indy and her Vodka and set off in the drizzle, with the instructions "go down to the waterfront and turn right.. first check is right.." ringing in my ears. So off I jogged down to the waterfront and of course, before I had reached the restaurants, it had really started to rain properly. I mean "have to wipe my glasses every 20m" - proper rain. Around the waterfront and through a little waterside village to the roundabout where amazing, the first check was there by the roundabout. Onto Hong Kin Road then straight for about ten minutes until I realized I hadn't seen any paper in a while. Up and down and up the road again. I found some flour hidden under a hedge and some hell bank floating down the gutter, but nothing you could really conclusively call a trail. Took a look left down into the back of the country park but decided that wasn't the way (it was) and pushed on up the road until I met the Hiram's Highway at the fire station. Here I look left then decide to give up on trail and start to run along Hiram's Highway back to A. Immediately I hear "on-on" and its Gobi who's found trail outside the fire station. Wow! She thinks we should cross the road, and within 50m we have found trail and then onto a check. Gobi suggests left so up we go, through the village and onto Po Lo Che Road. Ah, a road I recognise ! Along to the bus stop then some searching both ways before a virtual coin is tossed and we decide to go left (yep, we should have gone straight). By now there is really no trail left or we are off trail (yep, we are off trail) so Gobi starts to pick up speed calling, "left", "right", straight". Wow, she must really know this route I thought .. but she later admits that she "was just running downhill to hit the main road again". Soon enough we do reach the road, past the excellent pizza place and across the road back to A. A few good minutes are spent telling tales of derring-do about the trail and the awful conditions while we wait for Pipe Rider to return. Much amusement is gained by comparing our trails (Pipe Rider, Brother A, Wanchai W*nker). A great time was had by all despite the conditions.. well done Indy! On-on! 5.89km several other permutations...
