Write-up - Hopeless

I arrived at HHYC to find the hare giving run instructions to Hopeless and (a still smiling) GG, just one more thing…, oh and just one more thing…! Sounds like a lot of things to note. I learned Octo had returned to the start having been stuck on the first Check, so we were given guidance to the first Check. We set off, indeed all was fine till the first Check - open with several options so we split up, nothing from the first round of checks or the second?? Then we met Octo and Freewheel also still mystified by the first Check. Octo insisted it must go right so we looked again, and this time Freewheel found trail on the steps behind the surfboards! Up and on passed the arrows coming the other way?? and the cemetery to the next open Check. Again, a tricky search until GG found trail down a shiggy path, wow, this is quite some shiggy, did we miss the wimps/Rambos split? This is not a wimp’s trail? And what’s with the loo roll? Strange that was not mentioned as “oh, one more thing”, Hopeless now suspecting we had joined a previous H4 trail by mistake (hence the arrows the wrong way had now become arrows the right way)! This shiggy was intense, Hopeless leading the way got taken down by a metal pipe holder (minus any pipe) - ouch, a major shin gash and a heavy fall! All eyes on the old metal pipe holders from there on and the falling rocks as we scrambled the last bit of steep slippery shiggy to the road! Eek, quite a trek through there!

Umm, so where’s the trail now? Left not possible, must be right so we marked it and off down the hill. Wait a minute, this is the hill we came up from the first Check??? Sure enough, Crash Test Dummy confirmed this as he headed up the hill towards us somewhat lost. Oh, you’ve missed the best bit we lie to him, no worries follow us, and you’ll get the chance to do it. So, back to the first Check, past the surfboards and up to the cemetery. Turning right this time Hopeless finds trail and off we go! Hopeless and CTD press ahead whilst I run with Octo and GG, we follow trail to the Check on Tai Chung Hau Road. CDT is lost again having apparently checked all directions, so we all set off to look. GG gets as far as the main road without trail but can see a marking on the other side - W+R rejoin?? Rejoin, we haven’t seen the split?? I think a beer was calling for GG, so he marked on home and Octo marked from the Check to the road! Soon enough, we were back.

I’m afraid we struggled with trail Indy - “what? it was so well marked”. As the hashers returned, debate continued over the trail and who went where! Gobi Lo and Gin n Vomit recruited a new hasher on trail - a very cute dog called Phoenix, who seemed to be solo and followed them most of the way round. Seems Phoenix is a wandering dog whose owner, after being contacted, was confident she can return safely home herself?? A little bit like LIT in reverse who safely made a trail of her own from home!

What I can say for sure, is that it was a beautiful evening with a wonderful setting over the Hebe Marina. The beer was cold, the curry was excellent, the showers were hot, and all was good. Thanks Indy for a lovely evening.

Oh, and one more thing - the homemade biscuits were delicious!!
